I cannot imagine that there is one person in the world who doesn’t like those warm, sweet and potato-like German roasted chestnuts! The only challenge to enjoy those is to prepare them in a way so the skin comes off easily. In today’s recipe, I would love to show you step by step how to prepare delicious chestnuts so they taste like at the German Christmas Market!

German Roasted Chestnuts

Christmas Market Chestnuts

INGREDIENTS
 
 
  • 500 g Chestnuts (Maronen)
  • Salt
INSTRUCTIONS
 
Prepare chestnuts for roasting
  • Wash and soak the chestnuts for 30 minutes in a bolw filled with cold water.
  • Drain them and cut it length- and crosswise.
  • Preheat the oven to 250°C (480°F).
  • Place them with a pot with cold, salty water and bring it to boil. Simmer for at least 10 minutes.
  • Place the cooked and wet chestnuts on the baking tray covered with baking sheet.
Roasting
  • Roast the chestnuts for 15 minutes.
  • Take the baking tray out of the oven.
  • Wet a small kitchen cloth and cover the chestnuts with it for 2 minutes to let them cool down a bit.
  • Enjoy:)
