Zapiekanki - Traditional Polish Open-Faced Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette
  • 200 g champignons
  • 100 g cheese (gouda, emmentaler)
  • 4 tbsp chives
  • 1 tsp butter or garlic butter
  • ketchup
  • 0,5 onion

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  • Cut baguette in half. Butter it.
  • Wash champignons and peel the onion. Place both in blender and blend it for several (3-5) seconds. The mixture doesn't have to be smooth.
  • Preheat butter in a sauté the mixture until tender. Season with salt & pepper.
  • Place the mixture on the sandwich half,
  • Grate the cheese and put on the top of the sandwich,
  • Bake for about 5 min - until cheese melts!
  • Before serving let them cool down a little. Serve them with ketchup and chives.
